Advicor is a combination of Lovastatin and niacin which are used to lower triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. Niacin, which is also known as nicotinic acid, is nothing but vitamin B (vitamin B3). It can be naturally found in animals and plants. Taking this drug can also lead to breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue which can in turn lead to failure of kidney. You should not drink alcohol as it can raise the triglyceride levels and lead to liver damage. FDA has categorized Advicor as Type X drug. It can cause danger to an unborn child and also cause birth defects.
Advicor Dosage
You should take Advicor at night before going to bed preferably with snacks ideally of low fat composition. You should not break, crush or chew the Advicor tablets. If you are not using Niaspan, start with the lowest dose of this medicine that is a five hundred mg per twenty mg tablet to be taken once every night. The dosage increase should not be greater than 500 mg on every day basis. It is not recommended to take more than two thousand mg per forty mg of Advicor daily. A study has shown that the drug strengths that is, 1 tablet of thousand mg per 40 mg and 2 tablets of 500 mg per twenty mg cannot be taken interchangeably.
